A kidney has three main regions. When the kidney is opened longitudinally (from top to bottom) these regions are easily observed. The outermost region is the renal cortex, the middle region is the renal medulla, and the inner most region is the pelvis. The renal cortex (latin renes cortex = kidney bark) contains the functional parts of a million or so nephrons or kidney tubules. In the cortex of the kidney, blood plasma is pressure filtered, nutrients are reabsorbed, and other items are actively secreted. The cortex of the kidney plays the main role in urine production. The renal medulla (latin renes medulla = kidney middle) contains the structures of the nephrons responsible for maintaining the salt and water balance of the blood. The renal medulla is hypertonic to the filtrate in the nephron and aids in the reabsorption of water. Muhammad Quli Qutb Shah (Persian: محمد قلى قطب شاه), Sultan of the Qutb Shahi dynasty, ruled from Hyderabad.
Muhammad Quli Qutb Shah (1580-1612 A.D.) was the fifth sultan of the Qutb Shahi dynasty of Golconda in south India. He founded the city of Hyderabad, India and built its architectural centrepiece, the Charminar. He was an able administrator and his reign is considered one of the better periods of Qutb Shahi rule.
The city of Hyderabad, or Bhagyanagar, was named after a local Telugu dancer named Bhagmati who lived in a cottage in the village of Chichlam, where the great edifice of Charminar stands. Legend has it that the young Sultan Muhammad Quli Qutb Shah loved Bhagmati dearly, and once rode out from the Golconda Fort to meet his beloved, braving the flood waters of the Musi River. He gave his paramour the name "Hyder Mahal," and named the city after her. This story may be apocryphal; however, Muhammed Quli Qutb Shah is recorded as having married a Telugu woman named Bhagmati.

Abdullah, son of Sultan Muhammad Qutb Shah, was a polyglot and a lover of poetry and music. He invited to his court and respected Kshetrayya, a famous lyric writer. Kshetrayya is known for his sexually explicit poetry.
His reign was full of sorrow and trouble. Aurangzeb under the command from Shah Jahan took over Hyderabad by surprise and restricted Abdullah within the Golconda fort. Abdullah worked hard to negotiate reasonable terms of surrender but the Mughals forced him into accepting severe conditions. This unhappy monarch died in 1672 and was succeeded by his son-in-law, Abul Hasan Qutb Shah.
Abul Hasan Qutb Shah (also transliterated in different ways) was the seventh and last ruler of the kingdom of Golconda in southern India under the Qutb Shahi dynasty. He ruled from 1672 to 1687. He was also known as Tani Shah, meaning "benevolent ruler".
He is remembered as a popular statesman who did not discriminate against those of other ethnicities or religions. He hired Brahmins as his ministers and generals. For example Madanna, a Telugu Brahmin from Hanamkonda City, was his Chief Minister. Tana Shah gained a place in the Telugu literature due to Kancharla Gopanna, nephew of Madanna. Kancharla Gopanna is famously known as "Ramadasu". Ramadasu lived in Nelakondapalli City in Palvancha county. Tani Shah hired him as "Tehsildar" (head of the revenue department) of Palvancha county. Ramadasu diverted the public funds to construct a Rama temple in Bhadrachalam and for the jewelry for the idols of Rama, Sita and Lakshmana. Tana Shah found Ramadasu guilty of misappropriation of public funds and put him in jail. Later, according to legend, Tana Sha released Ramadasu from jail because Lord Rama appeared to him in person and paid back the money. For this goodwill gesture to Ramadasu, Tana Sha gained praise of the Telugu people.
Earlier Tana Shah's father-in-law Abdulla Qutub Shah was forced by Aurangzeb to acknowledged the suzerainty of Shah Jahan. About the year 1683, Abul Hasan appears to have become irregular in payments of taxes to the Mughals. This lead Aurangzeb on a campaign to reassert the rule of Mughals on Golconda. He attacked Golconda. Tana Shah defended the fort for eight months, but Aurangazeb succeeded in capturing Golconda by bribery at the end in October 1687. Tana Shan was taken as a prisonar and was imprisoned in the Daulatabad fort until his death.
With the defeat of Abul Hasan Qutub Shah the Qutb Shahi dynasty ended and a new Nizam dynasty began in Hyderabad under the control of Mughal Dynasty.

| As a part of my research for this column, I’ve traveled the world to check out innovative therapies that have the potential to restore some function after spinal cord injury (SCI). Continuing these efforts, I recently traveled to Delhi, India, where I became the first American scientist to visit a unique SCI stem-cell program. Developed by Dr. Geeta Shroff, this program has profound implications because it is one of the first to use human embryonic stem cells (ESCs), supposedly the most powerful of all stem cells (see sidebar) with huge therapeutic possibilities. Although many issues will need to be addressed before the program obtains widespread acceptance, based on my limited observations, I am excited about its potential and suspect it will ultimately represent a big step toward the promised land of restored function. Briefly, Shroff has treated over 300 people (70 SCI) with ESCs. Often remarkable results have accrued - and especially important given ESC’s theoretical risks, no adverse side effects have occurred. A Single Embryo All cells that have been transplanted into the many patients numerous times were derived from a single, surplus fertilized egg from Shroff’s in-vitro-fertilization (IVF) program. Developed with donor permission, this fertilized egg would have been disposed of under normal circumstances. Cut again, and it becomes four bubbles or a four-cell embryo. This division goes on, successively creating 8, 16, 32, 64, 128-cell embryo, the total volume changing little. Between four and six days, the cells rearrange into two layers: an outer layer that will develop into placental and amniotic tissue and a few dozen cells called the inner-cell mass (ICM) which turns into everything else. Now labeled a blastocyst, the embryo is about 0.1-mm across or the size of the period at the end of this sentence. As the cells continue to develop, they increasingly lose their omnipotent nature. After about two weeks, the ICM starts to organize into three specific layers that become our various tissues: 1) ectodermal layer (developing into nerve, skin, etc), 2) mesodermal (turning into blood, muscle, bone, etc), and 3) endodermal (differentiating into the gut, liver, pancreas, bladder, etc.). To obtain ESCs, the ICM cells are isolated before they start turning into these layers, and grown in culture. The culturing technology has only recently emerged and requires sophisticated methodology and skill. For example, scientists have had to grow the cells on a layer of animal cells to provide nutrients and the signals needed to keep the cells from further differentiating. In this regard, Shroff’s breakthrough is that she has grown ESCs without using any animal products, including these feeder cells. By keeping the cells purely “human” in nature, she makes them more amenable to transplantation. The cells from her “mother culture” are further adapted or primed to create daughter cultures targeting specific disorders. Hence, a more specialized cell line will be used to treat individuals with SCI, stroke, diabetes, etc. According to Shroff, the transplanted cells will home into the tissue where they are needed. Thus, even when introduced by more remote intravenous or intramuscular routes, the cells’ physiological affinity for the target tissue will cause them to migrate where they are needed. Treatment Exemption Shroff’s ESCs use is allowed under Indian stem-cell guidelines if the condition or disorder is considered incurable. Given the snail-pace development of real-world stem-cell therapies in the U.S., these are insightful guidelines. Although the U.S.s’ conservative regulatory approach theoretically ensures safety and efficacy, it also creates hard-to-surmount barriers that inhibit the introduction of helpful therapies, especially for a disorder like SCI with a limited economic market. Pursuant to the guidelines, Shroff’s procedures have been reviewed by an ethics committee that oversees the program. She emphasizes to all prospective patients, who must sign an informed-consent document, that there is no guarantee of success. The 300 treated patients represent diverse “incurable” disorders. In one of the more dramatic examples of the potential power of these cells, a patient who was in a persistent vegetative state for many years – similar to the well-known Terry Schiavo case in the U.S. - become responsive for the first time after ESC treatment. Countering criticism she’s using vulnerable and disadvantaged people as guinea pigs, Shroff notes that 30% of her patients are physicians or have family members who are physicians. In other words, highly educated medical professionals who appreciate underlying issues have chosen to avail themselves of the treatment. In addition, a number of senior government officials have been treated and, based on their comments to me, are delighted with the benefits. Documenting interest in her program at the highest levels, Shroff has briefed the Indian President and Prime Minister. Finally, showing that her program is more than just a profit-making venture, many of her indigent patients have been treated without charge. Clinic As I traveled through 13 time zones, it took nearly two days to travel to Delhi, and jetlag’s impact was severe on sleep and my daytime mental acuity. Because the monsoon rains had not started, temperatures exceeded 110o F in the dusty city. Hardly noticed by the locals, the ubiquitous din of horn honking didn’t fade until the middle of the night. Many spoke fluent English. As in many countries I have visited, a McDonalds was nearby - although perhaps unique in the world of McDonald’s, no beef was served. Shroff’s Nu Tech Mediworld clinic is located next to Father Agnel Catholic School, and uniformed students often enthusiastically played in the park in front of the clinic. Overall, I was impressed with the optimistic outlook that pervaded the clinic. In addition to patient optimism, staff at all levels, from the doorman to physicians, projected an attitude that they were part of something special that was helping their fellow man and truly making a difference. Shroff and her collaborating physician Dr. Ashish Verma have an informal, open-door policy in which patients drop in and provide progress updates. Treating SCI Due to a booming economy, India has a burgeoning SCI population. Because of the societal impact of so much SCI, policymakers believe new approaches - such as Shroff’s stem-cell program - are desperately needed. Shroff has treated about 70 persons with SCI. Although she believes that treatment would be optimal when started close to injury, most of her patients have been injured for at least a year. Basically, she decided not to treat the more acutely injured patients because critics would dismiss improvements as something that would have occurred anyway during a period in which functional gain is not uncommon. Patients often visit the clinic several times for a series of transplantations. The cells are introduced through a variety of routes, including intravenous or intramuscularly injections, and more infrequent intrathecal transplantations directly into the spinal-cord region. The number of transplanted cells increases over time. Conclusion Although many SCI stem-cell programs are emerging, Shroff’s approach is unique because it transplants ESCs, a procedure only in the planning stages in the U.S. Being the “mother of all stem cells,” ESC have great potential to differentiate into therapeutically useful tissue. The concern that they could turn into something bad has not been realized so far in Shroff’s program. Nevertheless, people considering any stem-cell procedure should carefully weigh, relative to their unique situation, potential benefits that may or may not accrue against undefined risks.

Indications

A surrogate mother is the woman who is pregnant with the child and intends to relinquish it after birth.[1] The word surrogate, from Latin subrŏgare (to substitute), means appointed to act in the place of.[citation needed] The intended parent(s) is the individual or couple who intends to rear the child after its birth.[1]
In traditional surrogacy (aka the Straight method) the surrogate is pregnant with her own biological child, but this child was conceived with the intention of relinquishing the child to be raised by others; by the biological father and possibly his spouse or partner, either male or female. The child may be conceived via home artificial insemination using fresh or frozen sperm or impregnated via IUI ( intrauterine insemination) or ICI (intra cervical insemination) which is performed at a fertility clinic.
In gestational surrogacy (aka the Host method) the surrogate becomes pregnant via embryo transfer with a child of which she is not the biological mother. She may have made an arrangement to relinquish it to the biological mother or father to raise, or to a parent who is themselves unrelated to the child (e. g. because the child was conceived using egg donation, sperm donation or is the result of a donated embryo). The surrogate mother may be called the gestational carrier.
Altruistic surrogacy is a situation where the surrogate receives no financial reward for her pregnancy or the relinquishment of the child (although usually all expenses related to the pregnancy and birth are paid by the intended parents such as medical expenses, maternity clothing, and other related expenses).[1]

THE MOUNTAIN FORTRESS IN THE WILLDERNESS
Cradled in the cluster of thirteen mountain peaks of the Aravalli ranges, the formidable medieval citadel- Kumbhalgarh stands a wary sentinel to the past glory. Rising from a prominent ridge, 1914meters high from the sea level, the fort was built in 15th century AD by Maharana Kumbha (1419-63 A.D.) and is the principal fortification after Chittaurgarh, Lying 90 Km north-west of Udaipur.
The massive fort, encompassed by a 36-Km long wall, has seven majestic gates and seven ramparts, one within the other. Rounded bastions and soaring watchtowers strengthen the crenallated walls of the fort making it an impregnable structure.
Fascinating chambers are built on the western side of the last gate-the ‘Nimboo Pol’. Punishing Gluttony and the Gluttonous
Gluttony is normally associated with eating too much, but it has a broader connotation that includes trying to consume more of anything than you actually need, food included. Thomas Aquinas wrote that Gluttony is about "...not any desire of eating and drinking, but an inordinate desire...leaving the order of reason, wherein the good of moral virtue consists." Thus the phrase "glutton for punishment" isn't as metaphorical as one might imagine.
In addition to committing the deadly sin of gluttony by eating too much, one can do so by consuming too many resources overall (water, food, energy), by spending inordinately to have especially rich foods, by spending inordinately to have too much of something (cars, games, houses, music, etc.), and so forth. Gluttony could be construed as the sin of excessive materialism and, in principle, focus on this sin could encourage a more just and equitable society. Why hasn't this actually occurred, though?
Although the theory might be appealing, in practice Christian teaching that gluttony is a sin has been a good way to encourage those with very little to not want more and to be content with how little they are able to consume, since more would be sinful. At the same time, though, those who already over-consume have not been encouraged to do with less so that the poor and hungry could have enough.
Over-consumption and "conspicuous" consumption have long served Western leaders as means for signaling high social, political, and financial status. Even religious leaders themselves have been arguably guilty of gluttony, but this has been justified as glorifying the church. When was the last time you even heard a major Christian leader single out gluttony for condemnation?
Consider, for example, the close political connections between capitalist leaders and conservative Christians in the Republican Party. What would happen to this alliance if conservative Christians began condemning greed and gluttony with the same fervor they currently direct against lust? Today such consumption and materialism are deeply integrated into Western culture; they serve the interests not just of cultural leaders, but also Christian leaders.

Mogambo – Mr. India
Amrish Puri’s menacing act as Mogambo was not just a turning point in his career but also the most memorable comic-book-villain-acts in Hindi cinema. The audiences were thrilled every time Amrish Puri glared down at them with his fiercely bulbous eyes sporting an atrocious blond wig and garish knee high silver heeled boots. They came back again and again to hear him mouth possibly the most repeated line of Hindi cinema (post 80s), ‘ Mogambo khush hua’ .
Shakal – Shaan
Another memorable villain from a Ramesh Sippy film, Shakal was the creation of Salim Javed. Kulbhushan Kharbanda played a Blofeld like Shakal, a villain straight out of the Bond flicks. A sadist who makes meals out of his men for hungry crocodiles and sharks (so what if they are made of plastic). They were offered to his ‘pets’ after a complicated game of musical chairs aided by hidden buttons and revolving chairs. Shakal’s den is on a lovely island replete with weird gadgets, wall-to-wall aquariums and gun-toting extras. His killing aids were fierce looking sharks as opposed to the acid tanks of yore, raising the cool quotient of the film. Kulbhushan Kharbanda will always be remembered as the bald headed Shakal who could chill your blood with that sardonic smirk of his.

Orphaned as a child, Arun Verma (Anil Kapoor) has dedicated his adult life to looking after orphaned children, in a house where he is unable to afford to pay the rent nor even day to day expenses for necessities. He decides to rent one of the rooms, and the tenant is a newspaper reporter named Seema Sohni (Sridevi), who happens to dislike children. Internation crime lord and terrorist Mogambo (Amrish Puri) takes an interest in his very house to store his firearms, and other weapons, and sends his men to force Arun to vacate. Arun and some of the children are beaten-up and threatened with dire consequences if they do not vacate the house. Arun's dad's friend Professor Sinha (Ashok Kumar) shows Arun a device that will make in him invisible, and thereby he will find a way to fight to keep the house. Arun tries the device, and he becomes invisible. Using this, he is able to turn the tables on Mogambo's men, and calls himself "Mr.India". Mr. India becomes popular with the masses, and people everywhere rejoice and claim him to be their new savior. No one knows that Mr. India is Arun, save for Jugal (Aftab Shivdasani). This does not auger well with Mogambo, and he spreads his terror, killing hundreds of innocent citizens, including a child in Arun's care. Mogambo decides to kidnap the children, Seema, and Arun himself, and hopes to trap Mr. India, when he attempts to rescue them. The abduction takes place, and Arun, Seema, and the children are locked in a cell. In this skirmish, Arun misplaces the device, while Seema and the children await the arrival of Mr. India to rescue them, not knowing that time is running out, and Mogambo has already planned their deaths in a pit full of acid.

He cons the neighbouring landlord (Asit Sen)into forcibly giving him money so that they do not make any noise when he is showing the house to prospective tenants. One day he rescues Sheetal Choudhary (Rajshree) from killing herself. She was killing herself as her childhood betrothed, Ravi Khanna (Pran), is refusing to marry now that she is poor and the Khannas are wealthy. Brahmachari commits himself to helping groom and educate Sheetal so that she can meet with the high standards of Ravi and thus win his heart. In turn she must pay him enough money to clear the mortgage loan from his house. In this process he falls in love with her, but is committed to the children more than ever before, and Sheetal is determined to win back Ravi at any cost.ANDE KA FANDA.

Heer Ranjha
You would assume that literature reflects what is going on in a society in any given time. The ballads, epics and legends that emerge mirror the norms and behaviour of society and perhaps also its hopes.I am starting to realize thought that the way we view a story also changes so that the story isn’t a plain reflection anymore. Instead our reaction to the story varies with the zeitgeist of the times.What made me think this is the folk tale of Heer Ranjha, the most famous of the romantic tragedies of Punjab. Immortalised in Waris Shah’s famous poem, the tragedy of Heer Ranjha has been told time and again as a celebration of love. One of my great uncles memorized Waris Shah’s version and it is regularly recited or sung at festivals and competitions. There is a great deal of affection for this poem amongst lovers of Punjabi language and culture as it celebrates both in a country where Punjabi is often looked down in favour of the more genteel Urdu. The tragic Heer herself is celebrated as the archetypal heroine: loyal, brave and beautiful with her big eyes, straight nose, full lips and dark skin. Her uncle Kaido, who poisons her at the end, is the classic villain seen again and again in later stories and films.

Today is 31st August, 2003. Yesterday, I visited 53rd Safed Musli farms. My visits were started from 15th June 2003. During these visits, I met many innovative farmers and noted the problems they are facing in cultivation and also asked them to share their experiences with this wonder crop.
In present article, I am giving details of my visits for the benefits of new growers as well as other interested farmers. I have visited many Indian states viz. Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, West Bengal, Uttar Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh and Gujarat, this season. I have noted that the area under Safed Musli is has increased many folds this year. I would like to use the term Chlorophytum species, instead of Safed Musli here.
