Lalu mantra for IAS, IPS probationers soon

PATNA: Railway minister Lalu Prasad will be going to Lal Bahadur Shastri Academy for Administration in Mussoorie after the conclusion of the ongoing Parliament session to give lessons to IAS and IPS probationers. "I will tell them about the U-turn in the railways and where the savings were made and how to manage resources," said Lalu stressing that he will have an interactive session with the IAS and IPS probationers. Lalu said managing resources was an important part of financial administration. "These IAS and IPS officers at one time of their career will be asked to play a key role in managing their resources," he said expressing the hope that his own experience in handling the railways might prove to be useful for the new recruits to all-India services. The spectacular financial success of the Indian Railways during last financial year has prompted the railways to set a target Rs 20,000 crore as profit for the year 2007-08. This has also resulted in Lalu being acknowledged as the new 'Management Guru' with some leading management institutes requesting him to deliver lectures to their faculty and students alike. Lalu, on the other hand, hdd recently admitted that while his graph as a successful railway minister was going up, his political fortunes in his home state had taken a dip.

Main article: History of Amsterdam

Amsterdam (IPA: [ɑmstərˈdɑm]) is the capital and the largest city of The Netherlands. Its name is derived from "Amstel dam",[6] pointing to the city's origin: a dam on the river Amstel. The city is known for its historic port, the Rijksmuseum, its red-light district (de Wallen), its liberal coffee shops, and its many canals which have led to Amsterdam being called the "Venice of the North". During the Dutch Golden Age, Amsterdam was one of the most important ports in the world, with innovative developments in trade, and became the leading centre for finance and diamonds.[7]

The city, founded in the late 12th century as a small fishing village, has grown to become the largest city in the Netherlands with a population of 743,104 inhabitants, containing at least 172 nationalities.[8][9]

Amsterdam and its surrounding metropolitan area have a population of 1 million to about 1.5 million people, depending on definition, and is part of the Randstad conurbation, which has a population of 6,659,300. Also, Amsterdam is a six-point Gamma Global City.[10]

The first known record of Amsterdam is 27 October 1275, when the inhabitants of a late 12th century fishing village who had built a bridge with a dam across the Amstel were granted freedom by count Floris V from paying a bridge toll .[11] The certificate's wording (homines manentes apud Amestelledamme - people living near Amestelledamme) gives the first known use of the name Amsterdam, which by 1327 had developed into Aemsterdam.[11] A local tradition has the city being founded by two fishermen, who landed on the shores of the Amstel in a small boat with their dog.

UNION MINISTER for Railways, Lalu Prasad Yadav accompanied by his wife Rabri Devi and other family members visited tulip garden in Srinagar today and were highly impressed by the scenic splendor presented by 12 lakh blooming tulips of 60 varieties.

Beauty is truly in the eyes of the beholder. That’s what the versatile Lalu experienced when he visited Sriginar ‘s tulip garden. With most of nature’s beauty getting destroyed this nature’s paradise should evoke some sense of responsibility for all.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jawaharlal_Nehru

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nehru-Gandhi_Family

The Nehru family is of Kashmiri Brahmin descent. The name "Nehru" is derived from the Hindi "nehar", meaning canal. Pandit Raj Kaul moved to Delhi from Kashmir at the behest of the then Mughal emperor Farrukhsiar in the early 18th century. A "jagir" (estate) with a house on the banks of a canal was presented to Raj Kaul by the emperor, as it was the custom in those days to donate land to Brahmin scholars (Raj Kaul was a scholar of Persian and Sanskrit). Because of the canal, the family came to be known as Kaul-Nehrus. Later Kaul was dropped and the surname became "Nehru". Jawaharlal's grandfather, Ganga Dhar Nehru, was the kotwal or constable of Delhi for some time. After the 1857 mutiny, the Nehru family moved to Allahabad, and settled there.

The family's political fortunes were founded by Motilal Nehru (1861-1931), who was a prominent lawyer and early activist in the Indian independence movement. Motilal was succeeded as President of the Congress by his son, Jawaharlal Nehru (1889-1964), in 1929. Jawaharlal then became one of the most prominent Indian nationalist leaders, in close alliance with the movement's spiritual leader, Mohandas Gandhi (not related to the Nehru-Gandhi family).

Mention saffron and one's mind goes wafting amidst the exotic aroma

of the most luxuriant spice, rivalling ounce for ounce, the cost of gold.

The world’s costliest condiment is the connoisseur’s delight that lends

the dish an aura of celebration, amidst a dash of colour. Saffron is derived

from Arabic Za’fran which refers to golden yellow – the ancient dye used to

colour the bridal veils in the Arab world.

Beyond the culinary menu, the use of saffron was wide and varied.

History stands witness to the opulent Roman and Greek halls and

theatres enlivened with saffron. Greek courtesans perfumed their

luxuriant baths with saffron, while the Phoenicians dedicated it to their

goddess Astarte. The streets of Rome were strewn with saffron when Nero

entered the city. Saffron was Prophet Solomon’s ('a) fragrant delight.

The earliest use of saffron is credited to the people of the Indus Valley

Civilization at Mohenjo-Daro, who used it as an edible herb and a dye.

However, bits of saffron were also discovered in Egyptian mummies

and some people attribute the Mediterranean area to be the place of

origin for saffron. Its earliest cultivation is believed to be in Cilicia,

southern Turkey in the ancient town of Corycus where saffron was

referred to as Crocus. An Indian legend attributes the

spice to be a gift from the

water god (Taksaka Naga) to Waghbhatta,

the physician who cured the god’s eye infection.

Etymology and other names

Ganesha as 'Shri Mayureshwar' with consorts Buddhi and Siddhi, Morgaon (the central shrine for the regional aṣṭavināyaka complex)[16]

Ganesh has many other titles and epithets, including Ganapati and Vigneshvara. The Hindu title of respect Shri (Sanskrit: श्री; śrī, also spelled Sri or Shree) is often added before his name. One popular way Ganesha is worshipped is by chanting a Ganesha Sahasranama, a litany of "a thousand names of Ganesha". Each name in the sahasranama conveys a different meaning and symbolises a different aspect of Ganesha. At least two different versions of the Ganesha Sahasranama exist; one version is drawn from the Ganesha Purana, a Hindu scripture venerating Ganesha.[17]

The name Ganesha is a Sanskrit compound, joining the words gana (Sanskrit: गण; gaṇa), meaning a group, multitude, or categorical system and isha (Sanskrit: ईश; īśa), meaning lord or master.[18] The word gaņa when associated with Ganesha is often taken to refer to the gaņas, a troop of semi-divine beings that form part of the retinue of Shiva (IAST: Śiva).[19] The term more generally means a category, class, community, association, or corporation.[20] Some commentators interpret the name "Lord of the Gaņas" to mean "Lord of Hosts" or "Lord of created categories", such as the elements.[21] Ganapati (Sanskrit: गणपति; gaṇapati), a synonym for Ganesha, is a compound composed of gaṇa, meaning "group", and pati, meaning "ruler" or "lord".[22] The Amarakośa,[23] an early Sanskrit lexicon, lists eight synonyms of Ganesha : Vinayaka, Vighnarāja (equivalent to Vignesha), Dvaimātura (one who has two mothers),[24] Gaṇādhipa (equivalent to Ganapati and Ganesha), Ekadanta (one who has one tusk), Heramba, Lambodara (one who has a pot belly, or, literally, one who has a hanging belly), and Gajanana (IAST: gajānana) ; having the face of an elephant).[25]

Vinayaka (Sanskrit: विनायक; vināyaka) is a common name for Ganesha that appears in the Purāṇas and in Buddhist Tantras.[26] This name is reflected in the naming of the eight famous Ganesha temples in Maharashtra known as the aṣṭavināyaka.[27] The names Vignesha (Sanskrit: विघ्नेश; vighneśa) and Vigneshvara (Sanskrit: विघ्नेश्वर; vighneśvara) (Lord of Obstacles)[11] refers to his primary function in Hindu mythology as the creator and remover of obstacles (vighna).[28]

A prominent name for Ganesha in the Tamil language is Pille or Pillaiyar (Little Child).[29] A. K. Narain differentiates these terms by saying that pille means a "child" while pillaiyar means a "noble child". He adds that the words pallu, pella, and pell in the Dravidian family of languages signify "tooth or tusk of an elephant", but more generally "elephant".[30] Anita Raina Thapan notes that the root word pille in the name Pillaiyar might have originally meant "the young of the elephant", because the Pali word pillaka means "a young elephant".
